How do I restore an AOL account I removed from my phone by mistake?

Answer

Reinstall the AOL app from the official app store or add the AOL account again in the phone’s Mail settings, then sign in with your AOL email and turn Mail on. Your messages remain on AOL’s servers unless you deleted them inside the mailbox.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Use only the official AOL app or phone Mail settings—fake login pages are common in phishing texts.
  • If you deleted messages inside AOL itself, restoring the account setup will not bring those messages back.

Follow these steps

  1. Reinstall the AOL app

Open the App Store or Play Store, search AOL, and install the official AOL app.

You should see: The AOL app is on the phone again.

  2. Sign in to AOL

Open the app and sign in with your AOL email and password, completing any verification AOL sends to you.

You should see: Your mailbox loads in the app.

  3. Add AOL to system Mail if preferred

On iPhone, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Add Account and sign in to AOL again with Mail turned on.

You should see: AOL appears under Accounts and syncs mail.

  4. Send a test message

Send yourself or a friend a short email and confirm new mail arrives on the phone.

You should see: Mail send and receive work again.

Extra tips

What to look for: Missing AOL app or account in Mail settings, and a successful password or app-password sign-in prompt.

Before you change anything: Know your AOL email and password, or use AOL account recovery first. Install only the official AOL app. On iPhone, also check Settings > Mail > Accounts. Do not enter your password on unfamiliar websites from texts.
