How do I track a lost iPhone when I do not know the Apple ID password?
Answer
Recover the Apple ID password through Apple's official iforgot flow first, then sign in to Find My on iCloud to see the iPhone's last location and mark it as lost.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Do not share Apple ID passwords or one-time codes with anyone offering to track the phone for you.
Follow these steps
Start official Apple ID password recovery
On a computer or another phone, open Apple's official iforgot or account recovery page, enter the Apple ID email or phone number, and choose reset password.
You should see: Apple sends a verification path to a trusted email or phone number.
Complete verification and set a new password
Follow the prompts to verify identity and create a new Apple ID password. Do not reuse codes with anyone outside Apple's page.
You should see: You can sign in to the Apple ID successfully.
Open Find My for the lost iPhone
Sign in at iCloud.com Find My or the Find My app on another Apple device and select the lost iPhone.
You should see: A current or last known location appears, or Apple shows the device as offline with a last location.
Mark as Lost and watch for updates
Use Mark As Lost to lock the phone with a message and contact number, and keep Find My open for location updates.
You should see: The iPhone is locked remotely and ready to report a location if it reconnects.

Extra tips
What to look for: Whether you still know the Apple ID email, whether trusted phone or email verification is available, and whether Find My was enabled before the loss
Before you change anything: Write down possible Apple ID emails used on the iPhone. Use only Apple's official account recovery pages. Ask family members not to continuously guess the password. Never share Apple ID codes with anyone who calls about the lost phone.
