How do I fix the MLB app when it will not open on a Roku TV?

Answer

Test another app, restart the Roku TV through its system menu, and install available Roku software and app updates. If only MLB still fails, report the launch problem to MLB with the TV details. A failure to open the app needs different diagnosis from a game that will not play after it opens.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not share passwords or one-time sign-in codes with unsolicited callers offering streaming support.
  • Avoid factory resets that erase TV settings while diagnosing a problem limited to one app.

Follow these steps

  1. Check the scope and connection

Open another streaming app and try a video. If that also fails, follow Roku’s connection and app-loading checks: use Settings > Network > About, then Check connection. Resolve a failed connection before testing MLB again.

You should see: You know whether the failure affects just MLB or the broader connection.

  2. Restart the Roku TV

Open Settings > System > Power > System restart. If there is no Power submenu, select System restart directly under System. When Home returns, try MLB again.

You should see: The TV restarts and MLB either opens or reproduces the same failure.

  3. Install available updates

Follow Roku’s manual update instructions: open Settings > System > Software update > Check Now. Let the update finish, then test MLB again. This checks both system software and app updates.

You should see: Updates complete or Roku confirms no update is available.

  4. Report a persistent MLB-only failure

If other apps work and MLB still will not launch, record what happens, the TV model, and the update result. Use Help/Contact Us from MLB’s Roku help center. Ask support to confirm current device compatibility and investigate the launch failure.

You should see: Support receives enough information to distinguish a device issue from an MLB app problem.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether MLB returns to Home, stays blank, or shows an error, and whether another streaming app works.

Before you change anything: Record the exact error and TV model. Keep your own MLB sign-in details available. Do not factory-reset the TV for an isolated app launch problem.
