How do I stop a website, app, or pop-up that will not go away on an iPhone?

If a page or pop-up will not leave an iPhone, it is usually stuck in Safari tabs or website data. Closing Safari tabs and clearing History and Website Data often removes it.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Clearing Safari history and website data signs you out of many websites and removes saved site data.
- Do not pay, call a number, or install an app from a pop-up that claims your iPhone is locked or infected.
Follow these steps
Close the Safari session
Open the app switcher, swipe Safari away to force-close it, then reopen Safari and close every open tab from the tab overview.
You should see: Safari restarts with no leftover tabs, or only the tabs you intentionally keep.
Clear History and Website Data
Go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data, then confirm. If a screen asks you to pay a fee or install unknown software, stop.
You should see: Safari history and website data clear, and the stuck page or pop-up stops returning.
Block pop-ups and review notifications
In Settings > Safari, turn on Block Pop-ups. Then open Settings > Notifications and revoke notification permission for any unfamiliar website or app that appeared with the pop-up.
You should see: Safari blocks new pop-up windows, and unwanted notification prompts stop.
Check for a profile or configuration if it still returns
Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management and look for any unknown configuration profile. Remove only a profile you recognize as unwanted and installed recently.
You should see: Either no unknown profile is present, or removing the unwanted profile stops the recurring screen.
