Why does adding a Blink camera fail with “Failed to complete”?

Answer

“Failed to complete” during Blink add-camera setup is usually a sync-module communication, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, or camera wake issue—not dead batteries. Reseat the batteries, reboot the sync module, keep the camera within a few feet during pairing, and retry only on the 2.4 GHz network Blink expects.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Deleting a sync module or entire system can orphan existing cameras and require full re-setup.

Follow these steps

  1. Reseat the camera batteries

    Remove both batteries for about 30 seconds, then reinstall them firmly with correct polarity. Watch for the camera LED to wake according to Blink’s setup instructions.

    You should see: The camera LED shows it is ready to be discovered.

  2. Restart the sync module

    Unplug the sync module for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and wait until it is online again in the Blink app before retrying Add Device.

    You should see: The sync module shows as online and ready.

  3. Retry pairing up close on 2.4 GHz

    Hold the camera a few feet from the sync module, start Add Camera again, and ensure the phone is on the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network used by Blink (not a 5 GHz-only SSID if your router splits bands).

    You should see: Setup progresses past discovery and finishes without “Failed to complete.”

  4. Update app and re-add once more

    Update the Blink app, reboot the phone, delete any incomplete half-added camera entry if shown, and attempt one clean add. If it still fails, contact Blink support with the camera serial number.

    You should see: The camera joins the system, or support identifies a defective unit or account issue.

Extra tips

What to look for: The exact “Failed to complete” app message, sync module LED behavior, and whether other cameras on the same system still work.

Before you change anything: Confirm the system is Disarmed before adding devices. Use the official Blink app signed into the correct account. Keep the camera within about 5 feet of the sync module during discovery. Avoid deleting the whole system unless support instructs it.
