Why won't the power switches work on an Ashley recliner?
Answer
Most often the wall transformer is unplugged, loose, or failed. Reseat the power cord at the wall and under the chair, then test the switches before assuming a motor fault.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Unplug the recliner before handling wiring under the seat.
- Do not force the mechanism by hand against a jammed motor.
Follow these steps
Confirm wall power
Unplug the recliner transformer, try a different working outlet, and plug it firmly back in. Check whether the brick warms slightly after a minute.
You should see: The adapter is firmly powered from a known-good outlet.
Reseat under-chair connections
With power unplugged, reconnect the cable from the transformer to the chair’s power input and any inline connectors. Restore power and test the switches.
You should see: The switches move the chair, or you confirm a connection was loose.
Test the handset cable
If the chair has a removable handset, unplug and reseat that cable at the base. If nothing happens and the transformer stays cold, the power supply is the likely failure.
You should see: Either motion returns or the fault points to the transformer or motor control.
Check warranty or parts
If connections are solid and another outlet does not help, contact Ashley or the retailer with the model number from the frame sticker about a replacement transformer or warranty service.
You should see: You have a part recommendation or warranty claim path.

Extra tips
What to look for: The recliner buttons do nothing, there are no error codes or lights, and the chair is a powered Ashley model.
Before you change anything: Unplug the recliner before inspecting connections under the seat. Note the model sticker if you need a replacement transformer. Keep fingers clear of the mechanism when testing movement.
