How do I fix a Shaw TV receiver when volume, PVR, and menu buttons do not work?

Answer

Unplug the Shaw receiver for about a minute, plug it back in, and wait until live TV returns fully before testing menu and PVR buttons again.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Be wary of redirects that demand a credit card for “free” technician help; use Shaw’s official channels.
  • Do not open the receiver case; that can void equipment terms and create electrical risk.

Follow these steps

  1. Power down the receiver completely

Unplug the Shaw receiver from the wall outlet (not only standby). Leave it unplugged for about 60 seconds.

You should see: All lights on the receiver go off.

  2. Restore power and wait for live TV

Plug the receiver back in and wait until live TV returns fully and front-panel lights settle into a normal pattern.

You should see: Live TV is back and the box has finished restarting.

  3. Retest menu and PVR controls

Try Menu, Guide, Pause, and record controls. Also try the receiver’s front-panel buttons if it has them.

You should see: Menu and PVR features respond again, or the failure is confirmed after reboot.

  4. Check remote batteries and mode

If only the remote fails, replace batteries and confirm the remote is in Cable/STB mode rather than TV-only mode.

You should see: Remote commands reach the Shaw box.

  5. Contact Shaw through official support

If menu and PVR still fail after a full reboot, contact Shaw support via the official app, website, or printed bill number and request receiver troubleshooting or a technician.

You should see: Shaw provides next steps or schedules service.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether live TV still shows, any error lights on the receiver, and whether the remote works for simple channel changes

Before you change anything: Note which remote buttons fail. Use Shaw’s official support number or account tools. Do not provide a credit card to an unexpected site that claimed to be required for free technician help.
