What should I do when a Foxtel box has no standby light and will not power on?

Answer

No standby light usually means the box is not getting power or has failed. Check the outlet and power lead first, then ask Foxtel for a technician visit if you cannot safely reach the connections.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not lift or pull a large TV to reach cables if that risks injury or tipping.
  • If you smell burning or see scorch marks on the plug or outlet, stop and have an electrician or Foxtel technician inspect it.
  • Only use Foxtel’s official support path; ignore unexpected callers asking for payment to “repair” the box.

Follow these steps

  1. Confirm power at the outlet

If you can do so safely, plug a lamp or phone charger into the same outlet or power strip the Foxtel box uses to confirm the outlet works.

You should see: You know whether the outlet is live.

  2. Reseat the power lead if reachable

If the back of the box is reachable without moving the TV unsafely, unplug the Foxtel power lead, wait 60 seconds, then plug it firmly back into the box and wall.

You should see: A standby light appears, or the box stays dark.

  3. Try a different outlet if possible

If a second outlet is easy to reach, try powering the box there to rule out a dead strip or surge protector.

You should see: The box lights up on the other outlet, or still stays dark.

  4. Contact Foxtel for technician help

Call or message Foxtel support through official channels and explain that the iQ box has no standby light, will not power on, and that connections behind the TV are not safely accessible.

You should see: Foxtel schedules a technician or arranges a replacement box.

  5. Ask about accessibility needs

When booking, mention any mobility limits so the technician knows they must handle all rear TV connections.

You should see: The visit is set up with the right expectations for on-site help.

Extra tips

What to look for: No standby or front-panel lights on the Foxtel box, while other nearby devices may still have power

Before you change anything: Do not strain to reach behind a heavy TV if that is unsafe for you. Note the box model (for example iQ4) and whether any lights appear at all. Contact Foxtel through their official support number or account app.
