What should I do if I lost my iPhone?
Answer
Use Find My on another Apple device or iCloud.com with your Apple ID, then play a sound, mark the iPhone as Lost, and watch its location if it comes online. Change your Apple ID password if you think someone else could unlock it, and contact your carrier to suspend service if needed.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Erasing the iPhone stops future location updates in Find My, so use Mark As Lost first unless you are sure you will not recover it.
Follow these steps
Open Find My or iCloud.com
On another Apple device open the Find My app, or on a computer go to iCloud.com, sign in with your Apple ID, and open Find Devices / Find iPhone.
You should see: Your devices list appears and includes the missing iPhone if it was signed into that Apple ID.
Play a sound or check the map
Select the iPhone. If it is nearby and online, play a sound. Note the last reported location and time if it is offline.
You should see: You either hear the phone or know its last known location and status.
Mark As Lost
Choose Mark As Lost (or Lost Mode), set a passcode if prompted, and add a phone number and message so a finder can reach you. Keep Activation Lock on.
You should see: The iPhone is locked remotely and will show your message when it connects to the internet.
Secure accounts and carrier service
Change your Apple ID password if the phone was unlocked or you suspect misuse. Contact your wireless carrier to suspend the line and ask about device blocking with the IMEI if you decide the phone will not be recovered.
You should see: Your accounts and phone number are protected while you continue searching or replace the device.

Extra tips
What to look for: Whether the iPhone appears in Find My / All Devices, its last location time, and whether it shows Online or Offline.
Before you change anything: Have your Apple ID email and password ready on a trusted device or computer. Write down the iPhone serial or IMEI from a box, receipt, or Apple ID devices list if available. Do not erase the iPhone immediately if you still hope to track it. Never share Apple ID codes with unexpected callers.
