How do I fix a Fitbit Versa 4 that will not connect to a phone?

Answer

Keep the watch and phone close, confirm Bluetooth is on, force-close and reopen the Fitbit app, then retry pairing. If the app itself will not open or install, update or reinstall the official Fitbit app before pairing again.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Install Fitbit only from the official App Store or Google Play. Stop if a site asks you to pay for or sideload a pairing tool.
  • Unpairing or setting up as new can remove watch data that has not synced, so sync first when the connection briefly works.

Follow these steps

  1. Prepare both devices

Charge the Versa 4, turn Bluetooth on for the phone, keep both devices close, and unlock the phone so pairing prompts can appear.

You should see: The watch is awake and the phone is ready to show Bluetooth or Fitbit pairing prompts.

  2. Fix the Fitbit app first

If the app will not open or install, update or reinstall Fitbit from the official app store, open it, and sign in to your Fitbit account.

You should see: The Fitbit app opens and reaches the home or device setup screen.

  3. Retry the connection

In the Fitbit app, choose your Versa 4 or Add a device, follow the on-screen pairing steps, and accept any Bluetooth permission prompts on the phone.

You should see: The Versa 4 appears as connected in the Fitbit app without a connection error.

  4. Restart both devices if pairing still fails

Restart the phone, restart the Versa 4 using Fitbit’s restart steps for that model, then try pairing once more from the app.

You should see: A fresh Bluetooth session completes and the watch syncs again.

Extra tips

What to look for: Connection errors on the Versa 4 or in the Fitbit app, Bluetooth toggles that look on but do not complete pairing, or an app install/update that will not finish.

Before you change anything: Charge the Versa 4 and unlock the phone during pairing. Note any exact error text shown on the watch or in the Fitbit app. Use the official Fitbit app from the App Store or Google Play only. Never share account passwords or one-time codes with unexpected callers.
