Why won’t the Alexa app accept my credit card for payments?

Answer

Alexa payments use the payment methods on your Amazon account. Update or add a card in the Alexa app’s payment settings or on Amazon’s official Wallet/payment pages, confirm billing details match the bank, then retry. Cards can also fail because of Amazon Pay eligibility, regional limits, or a bank fraud block.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Never share full card numbers, Amazon passwords, or one-time codes with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly about Alexa payments.

Follow these steps

  1. Open Alexa payment or Amazon Wallet settings

In the Alexa app, open the account/payment or Amazon Pay related settings. If you cannot find them, sign in on Amazon’s official website and open Your Payments / Wallet for the same account.

You should see: You see the list of payment methods tied to that Amazon account.

  2. Add or update the card with matching billing info

Add a new card or edit the existing one. Enter the name, expiration, security code, and billing address exactly as the bank has them, then save.

You should see: The card saves successfully, or Amazon shows a specific decline reason.

  3. Retry the Alexa payment

Return to the Alexa app, force-close and reopen it, then try the purchase or payment again with the updated card selected.

You should see: The payment completes, or the app shows a clearer error than before.

  4. Test a second accepted payment method

If every attempt fails, add a different credit or debit card Amazon accepts in your country, or another method Amazon lists for that purchase, and retry once.

You should see: At least one valid method works, isolating a single-card or bank issue.

  5. Check the bank and Amazon account status

If no card works in Alexa or on Amazon’s site, contact the bank about blocked online authorizations and review the Amazon account for payment holds using Amazon’s official help only.

You should see: You learn whether the bank is blocking charges or Amazon has a payment restriction on the account.

Extra tips

What to look for: The exact error when adding or charging a card in the Alexa app, and whether the same card works on Amazon’s website under Your Payments.

Before you change anything: Confirm which Amazon account is signed into the Alexa app. Have a valid card and the billing address exactly as the bank has it. Try Amazon’s official app or website only—ignore popups offering to “fix payments.” Note whether all cards fail or only one card fails.
