How do I stop a Moto G Stylus from talking and unlock the screen?

  • Avoid a factory reset just to stop the voice; that can erase data and is rarely needed for TalkBack.

Follow these steps

  1. Try the volume-key TalkBack shortcut

    Hold the Volume Up and Volume Down keys together for a few seconds, then release. Listen for a spoken confirmation that TalkBack stopped or started.

    You should see: TalkBack turns off, or you hear a clear message about TalkBack status.

  2. Unlock with two-finger gestures if needed

    If the phone is still speaking, swipe with two fingers to move between screens and double-tap with one finger to select. Unlock using your PIN or pattern with those gestures.

    You should see: You can reach the home screen or Settings even while TalkBack is on.

  3. Open Accessibility settings

    Open Settings, then Accessibility (or Accessibility & safety). Use two fingers to scroll if TalkBack is still active.

  4. Turn TalkBack off

    Open TalkBack or Screen reader, then turn it off. Confirm if the phone asks you to verify the change.
