How do I replace a lost SafeLink phone and move my number?

Answer

Report the lost SafeLink handset through SafeLink’s lost/stolen process (often by texting LOST to 611611 or calling from another phone), then ask about replacement options and transferring your number. On the new Motorola, find the IMEI in Settings > About phone or by dialing *#06#. Give that IMEI only to official SafeLink/Verizon support when they request it for activation.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Delaying a loss report can leave your number usable on the missing phone.

Follow these steps

  1. Report the lost SafeLink phone

From another phone, text LOST to 611611 or call SafeLink support and say the phone is lost or stolen. Ask them to suspend service if needed and explain replacement or number-transfer options.

You should see: SafeLink confirms the loss report and tells you the next activation steps.

  2. Find the new phone’s IMEI

On the replacement Motorola, open Settings > About phone and copy the IMEI, or open the Phone app and dial *#06#. The IMEI is usually 15 digits. Check under the battery tray or SIM tray text only if the software menu is unavailable.

You should see: You have the full IMEI written down accurately.

  3. Activate or transfer the SafeLink number

Follow SafeLink’s instructions to bring your existing number onto the new device. Provide the new IMEI and, if asked, insert the SafeLink SIM or complete eSIM/BYOD activation through their official process.

You should see: The SafeLink number registers on the new phone and can place a test call.

  4. Confirm service and secure the account

Send a test text, place a call, and verify mobile data. Ask support whether the lost device is blocked. Update your account PIN and voicemail PIN if the old phone could still be found powered on.

You should see: The new phone works on SafeLink and the lost handset is flagged or suspended.

Extra tips

What to look for: IMEI (15 digits), SIM status, SafeLink account phone number, LOST report confirmation, and activation or BYOD instructions from SafeLink.

Before you change anything: Have your SafeLink account details and phone number ready. Do not wipe or discard proof of the new phone’s purchase yet. Only share the IMEI with official SafeLink or carrier support. If the lost phone may still be on, consider changing account PINs after the loss report.
