How do I learn the basics of using an Apple Watch?

Follow these steps

  1. Pair with the iPhone Watch app

    On iPhone, open the Watch app, tap Start Pairing, and follow the camera or manual pairing steps. Keep the Watch unlocked and close to the iPhone until setup finishes.

    You should see: The Watch shows your watch face and appears as connected in the Watch app.

  2. Learn the two main controls

    Turn the Digital Crown to scroll and press it to open the app grid/list. Press the side button to open the app dock or power options. Swipe up for Control Center and down for notifications (gesture direction can vary by watchOS setting).

    You should see: You can open apps, Control Center, and notifications without guessing.

  3. Set notifications and a simple watch face

    In the iPhone Watch app, choose a watch face and enable notifications for Phone, Messages, and Calendar first. Add one complication you care about such as weather or activity.

  4. Practice charge and unlock habits

    Place the Watch on its Apple charger until the green lightning indicator appears. On iPhone, keep Wrist Detection and passcode enabled, and unlock the Watch with your passcode after it has been off your wrist.
