How do I regain access to a NAS web admin page after a power loss?

Answer

If your files are still reachable but the admin page will not sign you in after a power loss, first confirm the NAS's network address and try the default ADM ports, 8000 and 8001. If the admin password is the problem, ASUSTOR's official reset button resets the admin login without affecting your data. If that fails, contact ASUSTOR support.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • ASUSTOR's reset article says data is not affected, but back up important files if you can before changing settings, in case anything else goes wrong.
  • Forum posts sometimes suggest logging in over SSH, using default root passwords, or other unofficial recovery methods. These are not from the maker and could damage the system, so stick to the official reset and support steps.

Follow these steps

  1. Confirm the NAS is on and reachable

Check that the NAS has power and that its network cable link lights are on. Then open ASUSTOR Control Center on a computer connected to the same network. It should be able to find the NAS and show its network address. If the NAS does not appear at all, look for it in your router's list of connected devices, and check the cable and router before changing anything on the NAS.

You should see: You see the NAS listed with a network address. If it is not found anywhere, the problem is more likely the cable, router, or power, not the admin login.

  2. Try the default ADM ports

On a computer on the same network, type the NAS's address into a web browser and add port 8000, for example http://192.168.1.50:8000, using your NAS's own address. If that does not load, try port 8001 with https:// in front. The reset guidance from ASUSTOR says the ADM ports return to 8000 and 8001, so these are the ports the admin page normally uses. If someone changed the ports earlier, these may not match.

You should see: The ADM sign-in page appears. If neither port loads the page, move on to the password steps and the official reset.

  3. Sign in with the admin account you set up

Enter the admin username and the password you set. Check that Caps Lock is off and that the password is typed exactly. Stop if the page asks for a code or payment, and do not enter your password into any page you reached from an email, text, or pop-up.

You should see: You reach the ADM desktop and can open the settings. If the password is rejected, go on to the reset step.

  4. Reset the admin login with the reset button

If you cannot sign in with the password you have, use the official reset on the NAS. While the NAS is on, insert a thin object such as a paperclip into the recessed reset button and press it for about five seconds until you hear a beep, then let go. ASUSTOR's reset article says this sets the admin account back to admin, sets the ADM ports back to 8000 and 8001, returns network settings and ADM Defender to defaults, and does not affect your data.

You should see: You hear the beep. The admin account can now be signed in with the default username and password that the article lists.

  5. Sign in and set a new admin password right away

Sign in with the default admin account from the reset article, then open the account settings and set a new, strong password at once, since the default is publicly known. After that, check the network settings and ADM Defender, because the reset returned them to defaults and you may need to set them again.

You should see: You are signed in, the admin password is changed, and the next sign-in uses the new password.

  6. Contact ASUSTOR support if it still fails

If there is no beep, the password does not reset, or you still cannot sign in, submit a ticket in the ASUSTOR support center. Include the NAS model, the ADM version, the exact message on screen, and whether the NAS was shut down during the power loss.

You should see: ASUSTOR support replies with next steps. Keep a short note of what you tried and when, so you can share it with them.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether the NAS shows up on your network with an address, whether the admin sign-in page loads at all, and whether the password is rejected or the page never loads.

Before you change anything: Find the NAS's network address, either from ASUSTOR Control Center or from your router's list of connected devices. Write down the admin username you normally use and whether the password was changed recently. If you can, copy important files to another drive or computer before changing any settings. Never share the admin password or any code with someone who contacts you unexpectedly.
