Why did a new Xfinity remote stop working after a few days?

Answer

When only Power still works, the remote has usually lost pairing or TV-control programming rather than failing completely. Replace the batteries, re-pair it to the Xfinity box, and reprogram TV control; request a free replacement remote if pairing fails.

Follow these steps

  1. Replace the batteries

Install a new pair of matching alkaline batteries, making sure the contacts are clean and the battery door closes firmly.

You should see: The remote’s LED responds when buttons are pressed.

  2. Re-pair the remote to the box

Stand near the Xfinity box, then follow the on-screen or printed pairing steps for your remote (commonly holding the Xfinity/Setup button until the LED changes, then entering the code shown on TV). Complete pairing until the TV confirms success.

You should see: Volume, channel, and guide buttons control the box again.

  3. Reprogram TV power and volume

If box control works but TV power/volume do not, run the remote’s TV control setup so it learns your TV brand, or enable HDMI-CEC/control in the box settings if that is how your setup works.

You should see: TV power and volume respond consistently.

  4. Request a replacement remote

If pairing fails with fresh batteries, use the official Xfinity account app/site or visit a local store to request a replacement voice remote.

You should see: A replacement remote is ordered or provided.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether only Power works, whether the remote status light blinks, and whether the Xfinity box responds to its own front-panel buttons.

Before you change anything: Confirm this is an Xfinity voice remote for the same box model. Have fresh alkaline AA/AAA batteries ready (match the remote’s size). Keep the TV and box powered on during pairing. Avoid buying third-party remotes until the official re-pair steps are tried.
