Why does my TV keep turning off by itself?

Unexpected TV shutdowns are often sleep timers, HDMI-CEC power sync with a cable box, or unstable power. Disable sleep/auto-off timers, power-cycle the TV and Spectrum box, then test with the box unplugged to see which device is cutting power.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- If you smell burning or hear repeated relay clicking from the TV, unplug it and stop using it until it is inspected.
- Using an overloaded or damaged power strip can cause intermittent shutdowns and is a fire risk.
Follow these steps
Disable sleep and auto-off timers
On the TV remote, open Settings and look for Sleep Timer, Auto Power Off, No Signal Power Off, or Energy Saving. Turn those timers off and test for 15–20 minutes.
You should see: The TV stays on if a timer was the cause.
Power-cycle TV and Spectrum box
Turn the TV off, unplug the TV power cord for 60 seconds, and unplug the Spectrum cable box for 60 seconds. Plug the Spectrum box in first, wait 2–3 minutes for it to fully boot, then plug in and turn on the TV.
You should see: Both devices start cleanly and the random shutdowns pause.
Test HDMI device control
In the TV’s HDMI or External Inputs settings, turn off HDMI-CEC (may be named Simplink, CEC, or Device Link). Also check the Spectrum box for any “TV power control” option and disable it, then retest.
You should see: Turning one device off no longer forces the other off.
Isolate the cable box
Play a built-in app or an antenna/HDMI stick input without the Spectrum box. If the TV only dies when the box is connected, contact Spectrum about a box swap; if it still dies alone, pursue TV support.
You should see: You know whether the TV or the cable box is triggering the shutdown.

Extra tips
What to look for: Sleep timer or auto power off in TV settings; HDMI-CEC / Simplink / Bravia Sync style options; Spectrum box lights changing when the TV dies; any error blink codes.
Before you change anything: Note whether the Spectrum box also restarts when the TV turns off. Check that the TV has room ventilation and is not overheating. Use the wall outlet directly rather than an overloaded power strip if possible. Do not open the TV chassis.
