Why doesn't DIRECTV work after paying an overdue bill?
Answer
After an overdue payment, DIRECTV often needs a few minutes to reconnect, then a receiver reboot. If the account shows Move/Hold or similar, call DIRECTV billing to clear the hold before channels return.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Never share account PINs or one-time codes with unexpected callers offering to restore TV service.
Follow these steps
Confirm the payment posted
Sign in to the DIRECTV account online or in the app and verify the balance is current and the payment shows as completed.
You should see: The account shows a zero or low balance with a recent payment.
Restart the receiver
Unplug the DIRECTV receiver from power for 60 seconds, plug it back in, and wait until the guide finishes loading.
You should see: The receiver reboots and attempts to authorize channels.
Test several channels
Try two or three channels, including one local and one cable or premium channel, using the DIRECTV remote.
You should see: Picture and sound return on multiple channels, or a clear account message remains.
Clear a Move/Hold with DIRECTV
If Move/Hold or suspended status remains, contact DIRECTV billing with your account number and payment confirmation and ask them to reactivate service.
You should see: Support clears the hold and channels authorize after another restart.

Extra tips
What to look for: You recently paid a past-due DIRECTV bill and channels are blank, stuck, or the account shows a hold status.
Before you change anything: Keep the account number and payment confirmation ready. Note any on-screen message such as Move/Hold or account suspended. Do not buy equipment from unexpected callers claiming to restore service.
