How do I activate a new Samsung Galaxy phone when the QR code keeps failing?

Answer

Confirm the carrier activated the line for this device, use only the latest QR or activation code from that carrier, restart the phone, and try adding the eSIM again from Network settings. If QR scanning loops, enter the SM-DP+ address manually or insert a physical SIM if the carrier provided one.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not share carrier one-time codes with unexpected callers during activation.

Follow these steps

  1. Confirm the line is ready at the carrier

In the carrier account or with support, confirm the number is assigned to this new Samsung and request a new eSIM QR if the old one was already scanned.

You should see: The carrier says the line is ready and provides a fresh activation method.

  2. Restart and open eSIM setup

Restart the Galaxy, connect to Wi‑Fi, then go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager and choose Add eSIM.

You should see: The phone offers QR scan or manual entry.

  3. Scan once or enter details manually

Scan the new QR code once in good lighting. If it loops, choose manual entry and type the SM-DP+ address and activation code exactly as the carrier provided.

You should see: The eSIM downloads and the line shows as on.

  4. Test calls and texts

Turn off Wi‑Fi briefly and place a call or send a text. If service fails, toggle Airplane Mode once and recheck SIM manager.

You should see: The phone shows normal signal and can call or text on the new line.

Extra tips

What to look for: Repeated “scan another QR code” prompts, Emergency calls only, or no service after setup.

Before you change anything: Have your carrier account and order details ready. Do not scan random QR codes from email forwards you do not trust. Avoid deleting working eSIMs on other phones until the new one is live.
