How do I download a Kindle book when the device says it is no longer supported?
Answer
If the Kindle or desktop app is discontinued for downloads, open the same title in Kindle for Web or a current Kindle app on a supported phone, tablet, or newer Kindle. Remove broken sideloaded copies before retrying.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Do not download pirated replacements from unofficial sites when a supported Kindle app can still open your purchase.
Follow these steps
Confirm ownership on Amazon
Sign in to Amazon Content & Devices, find the book, and confirm it is registered to your account.
You should see: The title appears in your library even if an old device cannot download it.
Try a supported reading method
Open Kindle Cloud Reader in a browser or install the current Kindle app on a phone or newer Kindle, then download or open the book there.
You should see: The book opens on a supported app or browser.
Remove broken local copies
On the old Windows Kindle app or device, delete manually copied or failed downloads of that title so they do not hide a fresh sync.
You should see: Stale files are gone and the library view is clean.
Restart and sync supported devices
Restart the supported Kindle or app, connect to Wi‑Fi, and sync the library again.
You should see: The book remains readable on the supported device even if the legacy app cannot download.

Extra tips
What to look for: A “device no longer supported” message, missing Download option on Manage Content, or a book that never appears in the library.
Before you change anything: Confirm you can sign in to the same Amazon account that purchased the book. Avoid unofficial ebook crack sites. Keep a note of the book title before removing old copies.
