How can I find a forgotten Apple ID email address?

Answer

If a trusted Apple device is still signed in, check Settings or System Settings for the Apple ID name. If not, use Apple’s iForgot “Look it up” option with your name plus a recovery email or phone number on Apple’s official site.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Unofficial Apple ID lookup sites can phish personal information. Use only apple.com / iforgot.apple.com.

Follow these steps

  1. Check a signed-in Apple device

On an iPhone or iPad open Settings and tap the name at the top. On a Mac open System Settings and select the Apple Account / Apple ID section. Note the email shown.

You should see: The Apple ID email address is visible on the device.

  2. Use Apple’s Look it up option

If no device is signed in, go to iforgot.apple.com, choose the option to look up your Apple ID, and enter your name with the recovery email or phone number Apple has on file.

You should see: Apple shows matching Apple ID suggestions or next verification steps.

  3. Verify with a trusted method

Complete Apple’s verification using the recovery phone or email codes on Apple’s own page only, then write down the recovered Apple ID for future sign-ins.

You should see: You confirm the correct Apple ID and can proceed to password reset if needed.

  4. Reset the password if required

If you also forgot the password, continue through Apple’s official reset flow for that Apple ID after it is identified.

You should see: You can sign in with the recovered address and a new password.

Extra tips

What to look for: The Apple ID shown under Settings → [your name], or the Look it up option on iforgot.apple.com.

Before you change anything: Gather any recovery phone number or alternate email you may have used with Apple. Prefer a device that was previously signed into the account. Do not enter personal details on unofficial lookup websites. Never share verification codes with unexpected callers.
