Why does a landline say it does not accept calls from a specific number?

Answer

That message usually means the caller’s number is on a block, smart-call-block, or anonymous-call filter—not that the landline line is dead. Check Call Block / Block List on the handset or provider account and remove the sister’s number, then test again.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Factory-resetting a cordless base can erase handset pairings and contacts; use it only as a last resort.

Follow these steps

  1. Open the phone’s block list

On the handset or base menu, open Call Block, Smart Call Block, or Block List. Look for the sister’s number or a partial match.

You should see: You can see whether that number is listed as blocked.

  2. Remove the blocked number

Delete or unblock the number from the list and save changes. Also turn off anonymous-call rejection temporarily if the caller’s ID is sometimes withheld.

You should see: The number no longer appears on the block list.

  3. Check carrier-level blocking

If the handset list is empty, sign in to the landline provider account or dial the carrier’s call-block management code from the official bill/help pages and remove the number there.

You should see: Carrier block settings no longer reject that number.

  4. Retest with a known callback

Have the person call again from the same phone. If it still fails, try once with caller ID unhidden, then confirm the exact new message.

You should see: The landline rings normally, or a different error points to line or number formatting issues.

Extra tips

What to look for: Menus named Call Block, Smart Call Block, Block List, or Anonymous Call Rejection, and the exact network message the caller hears.

Before you change anything: Ask the caller for the exact recorded message they hear. Confirm whether only one number fails or many numbers fail. Note the phone brand/model printed on the base. Avoid a full factory reset of the cordless base until the block list is checked.
