How do I revive a completely dead iPhone 16 Pro Max?

A totally dead iPhone is often deeply discharged or stuck, not permanently failed. Charge it for at least 30–60 minutes with a known-good USB-C cable and brick, then force-restart. If there is still no logo, try another charger and Apple’s recovery mode before assuming hardware failure.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Choosing Restore in recovery mode erases the iPhone. Prefer Update first when the computer offers it.
- If the phone was exposed to liquid, do not keep charging a wet device; power down charging and seek service.
- Anyone claiming they can unlock a dead iPhone remotely in exchange for payment or codes is almost certainly a scam.
Follow these steps
Charge for at least 30 minutes
Plug the iPhone into a wall charger with a known-good USB-C cable. Leave it undisturbed for at least 30–60 minutes even if nothing appears on screen.
You should see: A battery or cable icon may appear, or the phone becomes warm enough to attempt a restart.
Force-restart the iPhone
Quickly press and release Volume Up, quickly press and release Volume Down, then hold the Side button for up to 20 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
You should see: The Apple logo appears and the phone boots to the lock screen or setup.
Swap cable and charger
If still dead, try a different USB-C cable and power adapter, preferably one that charges another device successfully. Charge again for 15–30 minutes and repeat the force restart.
You should see: A charging indicator appears, or the phone finally shows the Apple logo.
Try recovery mode on a computer
Connect the iPhone to a Mac or PC, open Finder or Apple Devices / iTunes, then put the phone into recovery mode using Apple’s button sequence for iPhone 16 and choose Update if offered (Restore only if Update fails).
You should see: The computer detects the iPhone and offers Update or Restore, or confirms the device is not detected so service is needed.
