How do I find my WhatsApp phone number?

Answer

WhatsApp shows the number tied to your account under Settings > Profile; that is usually the same mobile number used when WhatsApp was first registered.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Never share WhatsApp verification codes with anyone. WhatsApp support will not ask you for them in a chat or call you did not start.

Follow these steps

  1. Open WhatsApp settings

Open WhatsApp. On Android, tap the three-dot menu or Settings. On iPhone, tap Settings at the bottom of the screen.

You should see: You see the WhatsApp Settings screen with your profile at the top.

  2. Open your profile

Tap your profile photo or name at the top of Settings to open the profile details screen.

You should see: Your name, About text, and phone number are visible.

  3. Note the linked number

Write down or screenshot the phone number shown on the profile. That is the number WhatsApp currently uses for this account.

You should see: You have a clear record of the WhatsApp account number.

  4. If the number is missing or wrong

Sign out is not required to view the number. If WhatsApp instead asks you to verify a number, use the SIM that receives SMS for that line, or contact WhatsApp help from inside the official app if you cannot access the old number.

You should see: Either the correct number is shown, or you know you need SMS access to the original registration number.

Extra tips

What to look for: Your profile screen in WhatsApp showing a phone number under your name, or a prompt asking to verify a number

Before you change anything: Confirm you are in the official WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app from the App Store or Google Play. Do not enter your number on random websites that claim to reveal WhatsApp accounts. Never share verification codes with anyone who messages or calls you unexpectedly.
