How do I find a WhatsApp contact’s number after unblocking them?

Answer

Check the phone’s Contacts app for the saved number first, then look in WhatsApp chat info, archived chats, or call logs. WhatsApp does not keep a special “unblocked numbers” list if the contact was never saved on the phone.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Apps that claim they can extract any WhatsApp user’s hidden number are often scams or malware.

Follow these steps

  1. Search phone Contacts

Open the Contacts app and search by name. If the number was saved there, it should still exist after a WhatsApp unblock.

You should see: You find the number in Contacts, or confirm it was never saved.

  2. Open the WhatsApp chat info

In WhatsApp, find the chat (including Archived). Tap the contact name at the top and look for the phone number or view-contact option.

You should see: The number displays, or only the name/profile is shown.

  3. Check call history and notifications

Review WhatsApp calls and older notifications that may still reveal the number or let you open the chat.

You should see: You recover a path back to the conversation.

  4. Ask them to message first if needed

If no number remains on your device, ask through another channel for them to message your WhatsApp so the chat reappears after unblock.

You should see: A new inbound message restores the conversation thread.

Extra tips

What to look for: System Contacts entries, WhatsApp chat headers, and whether the chat still exists after unblock.

Before you change anything: Avoid third-party apps that promise to reveal WhatsApp numbers. Do not share your verification SMS with anyone.
