How do I find a phone left in a rideshare car?

Answer

Immediately mark the phone lost in Find My iPhone or Find My Device, then report the lost item in the rideshare app using that trip’s receipt. Contacting the driver through the app’s official lost-item flow is usually faster than visiting casino lost-and-found desks first.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Unofficial recovery fees demanded outside the rideshare app are often scams.

Follow these steps

  1. Enable Lost Mode on the phone

From another device, open Find My for iPhone or Find My Device for Android, select the missing phone, mark it as lost, and add a callback number with a short message.

You should see: The phone shows as lost and may display the callback message if it comes online.

  2. Report the lost item in the rideshare app

Open the trip receipt for that ride and use the trip help or lost-item link to notify the driver through the official app flow.

You should see: The app confirms the lost-item report was sent for that specific trip.

  3. Follow up only through official channels

Watch for driver replies in the app and follow the rideshare company’s instructions for pickup or shipping. Avoid off-app payment requests.

You should see: You arrange a safe return through the app or escalate to rideshare support.

  4. Check venue lost and found if needed

If tracking shows the phone near a hotel or casino stop, contact that property’s lost and found with the phone description and approximate time, while keeping Lost Mode active.

You should see: You either recover the phone or confirm it is still with the driver or another party.

Extra tips

What to look for: The trip receipt in Lyft or Uber, the phone’s last location in Find My or Find My Device, and any driver messages in the app.

Before you change anything: Use another phone or computer you can sign into Apple or Google with. Open the correct rideshare account that booked the trip. Do not share account passwords with people claiming they found the phone. Avoid factory-resetting the lost phone remotely unless you are sure it cannot be recovered.
