How do I find a lost iPhone?
Answer
Sign in to iCloud.com/find or the Find My app on another Apple device with the Apple ID that was on the lost iPhone. Select the phone to see its location, play a sound, mark it Lost Mode, or erase it if recovery is impossible.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Erasing a lost iPhone deletes its data and may remove the ability to keep seeing a live location afterward.
- Do not meet strangers alone based on a map pin; involve local authorities if theft is suspected.
- Anyone asking for your Apple ID password or codes to “track” the phone is using a scam tactic.
Follow these steps
Open Find My with the correct Apple ID
On another Apple device open the Find My app, or on any browser go to iCloud.com/find and sign in with the Apple ID used on the lost iPhone.
You should see: A list of Apple devices for that account appears.
Select the iPhone and check location
Choose the lost iPhone. Review whether it is Online with a map location or Offline with a last-known location.
You should see: You see a current or last-known location pin.
Play sound or enable Lost Mode
If nearby, play a sound. If not, enable Lost Mode to lock the phone and display a contact number on the lock screen.
You should see: The phone plays a sound, or Lost Mode is activated for when it comes online.
Erase only if necessary
If the phone cannot be recovered and contains sensitive data, choose Erase This Device from Find My. Activation Lock remains until you remove it from the account after erase confirmation.
You should see: The erase request is pending or completed, protecting account data.

Extra tips
What to look for: The device list in Find My / iCloud, location accuracy, Online vs Offline status, and battery level if shown.
Before you change anything: Use the Apple ID that was signed into the lost iPhone. Prefer an official Apple device or iCloud.com over third-party tracker sites. Decide in advance whether you will erase if the phone cannot be recovered. Never share Apple ID codes with strangers offering to locate it.
