How do I find a lost iPhone with Find My?

Answer

Sign in to iCloud.com/find or the Find My app with the Apple ID used on the lost iPhone. If the phone is online, you can play a sound, see its map location, or mark it as lost.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Erasing the iPhone remotely can remove the chance to track it further; use Erase only after you are sure recovery is unlikely.

Follow these steps

  1. Open Find My on another Apple device

On another iPhone or iPad signed into the same Apple ID, open the Find My app and tap Devices. Or on any computer, open a browser and go to iCloud.com/find.

You should see: You see a sign-in screen or a list of devices tied to the Apple ID.

  2. Sign in with the missing phone's Apple ID

Enter the Apple ID email and password for the lost iPhone. Complete any two-factor prompt on a trusted device or phone number you control.

You should see: Find My opens and lists devices, including the missing iPhone if it is still linked.

  3. Select the missing iPhone

Tap or click the iPhone in the device list and check whether it shows a current map location or an offline last-seen location.

You should see: You see Online with a map pin, Offline with a last known location, or No location found.

  4. Play a sound or mark as lost

If the phone may be nearby, choose Play Sound. If it is truly lost, choose Mark As Lost so it locks and can show a contact message if found.

You should see: The phone plays a sound if online nearby, or Lost Mode is turned on for that device.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether Find My shows the device as Online, Offline, or No location found, and the exact Apple ID email used on the missing iPhone.

Before you change anything: Confirm the Apple ID email that was signed into the missing iPhone. Use only appleid.apple.com, iCloud.com, or the official Find My app. Avoid factory-resetting another device or changing the Apple ID password until you have checked Find My. Never share your Apple ID password or verification codes with unexpected callers.
