How do I recover a phone left in an Uber?

Answer

From another phone or computer, sign into the rider’s Uber account and use Help for that trip’s “I lost an item” flow to message the driver. You cannot usually call the driver from outside the app. Also use Find My / Find Hub on the lost phone’s Apple or Google account if location is on.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Services that claim they can call your Uber driver for a fee are often scams.

Follow these steps

  1. Open the trip’s lost-item help

On another phone or computer, sign into Uber, open Account > Activity (or Trips), select the ride to the airport, and choose Help > I lost an item (wording may vary). Follow prompts to contact the driver in-app.

You should see: Uber provides an in-app way to message the driver about the lost phone.

  2. Share a callback number

In the lost-item flow, provide a reachable callback number for a different phone. Describe the phone’s look and where it might be in the car. Do not pay anyone outside Uber for “driver contact.”

You should see: The driver can reach you if the phone is found.

  3. Try Find My or Find Hub

Sign into iCloud Find Devices or Google Find Hub with the account on the lost phone. Play sound, view location, or enable Lost Mode / secure device.

You should see: You see a location or mark the phone Lost to protect accounts.

  4. Escalate through Uber if there is no reply

If the driver does not respond, continue in Uber Help for that trip and follow Uber’s lost-item next steps. File an airline/airport lost-and-found report only if the phone may have made it past the car.

You should see: You exhaust official Uber and find-device options with a clear record of the trip.

Extra tips

What to look for: The completed trip in Uber ride history; “Find lost item” / lost item Help option; Find My or Find Hub location status

Before you change anything: Use another device to sign into the rider’s Uber and Apple/Google accounts. Do not post the rider’s phone number and home address publicly. Avoid third parties who claim they can call the driver for a fee. Act quickly while the driver may still have the phone.
