How do I set up cellular service on a new iPhone?

Set up cellular during iPhone setup or later in Settings > Cellular by transferring from a nearby iPhone, scanning the carrier eSIM QR code, or installing a carrier plan. If a QR code is invalid, ask the carrier to reissue it.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Removing the old eSIM too early can leave you without service if activation fails.
- Do not share carrier account PINs or eSIM QR codes with unexpected callers.
Follow these steps
Start cellular setup
During setup, choose a cellular option, or go to Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM after setup finishes.
You should see: The iPhone shows transfer, QR, or carrier plan choices.
Transfer from a nearby iPhone if available
Keep the old iPhone nearby, unlocked, and follow Transfer From Nearby iPhone prompts to move the number.
You should see: The number activates on the new iPhone and shows carrier signal.
Scan the carrier QR code
If using eSIM, open Camera or the cellular setup QR scanner and scan the carrier code. If it says invalid, contact the carrier for a fresh QR or activation code.
You should see: The eSIM downloads and Cellular shows the new plan.
Confirm calls and data
Restart the new iPhone if needed, then place a test call and open a webpage with Wi-Fi off.
You should see: Voice and cellular data both work on the new device.
