Ask the settlement issuer

Go to IRS.gov, create or sign in to your IRS Online Account, and open Tax Records or Transcript options.

Download Wage and Income Transcript
Request the Wage and Income Transcript for the sale year and look for 1099 entries related to the real estate proceeds.
You should see: The transcript shows the reported 1099 information if the IRS has it.
Share with your tax preparer
Save the PDF and provide it to your tax preparer if you still need help reporting the sale.
You should see: You have documentation to complete the return even without the original paper form.
