How do I reconnect a Fitbit Sense 2 after its battery went completely flat?

Answer

Confirm that Google Health is using your existing account before creating another profile. Then restart the Sense 2 and phone, try a sync, and refresh the device connection only if needed. A discharged battery alone does not tell you that a new account is required.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • A factory reset erases data stored locally on the watch, including unsynced activity. Do not use it just because the battery ran flat.

Follow these steps

  1. Check the existing account first

Open Google Health and check the selected account. If you reach a sign-in screen, use the Google Account previously used for this watch. Do not create another profile simply to dismiss the prompt. Google distinguishes existing-account device setup from new-account setup.

You should see: You can identify your usual profile or the exact account prompt that blocks access.

  2. Try a sync while charging

Keep the Sense 2 near the phone, with Bluetooth and a working internet connection available. In Google Health, tap Connections, then Sync. Google’s sync troubleshooting guide also recommends trying while the device charges.

You should see: The sync completes, or the same connection problem remains reproducible.

  3. Restart the watch and phone

On Sense 2, hold the side button for 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears, then release. Restart the phone and reopen Google Health. This is the standard restart in Google’s device troubleshooting instructions, rather than a factory reset.

You should see: The watch starts again and you can retry syncing.

  4. Refresh a persistent pairing

If the correct account is open but syncing still fails, use Connections, select the Sense 2, and choose Disconnect device. In the phone’s Bluetooth settings, forget or unpair the Sense 2. Return to Google Health, choose Connections, then Add device, select Sense 2, and follow the prompts.

You should see: A fresh app connection completes and the watch appears under Devices.

  5. Stop if the account prompt remains

If the app still asks for an account you do not recognize, or setup cannot finish, use official Google Health support. Note the exact prompt and whether your existing activity history is visible. Avoid repeated resets while the account question remains unresolved.

You should see: You have a clear account or connection issue to report without deleting data.

Extra tips

What to look for: Your usual account in the app, the Sense 2 in the device list, and whether its last-sync information updates.

Before you change anything: Keep the watch on its charger while checking the app. Identify the account used before the trip. Avoid deleting the account or resetting the watch while activity remains unsynced.
