How do I fix a Hume scale that will not connect to the Hume app?

Answer

The most common reasons are that Bluetooth or the app's Bluetooth permission is off, the scale has gone to sleep, or another phone is already connected to it. Hume's own FAQ suggests checking those first, then searching for the scale again from inside the app.

Follow these steps

  1. Check Bluetooth and the app's Bluetooth permission

Turn on Bluetooth in your phone's settings. Then find the Hume app in your phone's settings and make sure it is allowed to use Bluetooth. Hume's FAQ gives the path Settings > Apps > Hume > Permissions and says to make sure Bluetooth is enabled; on your phone the menu names may differ.

You should see: Bluetooth is on, and the Hume app has permission to use it.

  2. Wake the scale so it is flashing

The scale enters sleep mode to save power. Step on it or tap it with your foot to wake it, and make sure its Bluetooth icon is flashing. Hume's FAQ says a flashing Bluetooth icon means the scale is not connected yet, so you want it flashing when you start the next step.

You should see: The scale is awake, and its Bluetooth icon is flashing.

  3. Search for the scale from the app

Open the Hume app and go to the Me page. In the Devices section, search for a new device. Keep the scale awake and flashing while the app searches, since the scale goes back to sleep quickly. Hume FAQ on scale connection describes these steps.

You should see: The app lists the scale as a nearby device, and you can select it to connect.

  4. Make sure only one phone is connected

Like most Bluetooth devices, the scale can connect to only one phone at a time. If another phone nearby has the Hume app open, close the app on that phone or turn off its Bluetooth, then search again from the phone you want to use.

You should see: Only the phone you want to use is trying to connect, and the search can find the scale.

  5. Charge the scale if it will not turn on

If the scale does not turn on or does not respond, charge it for at least 2 hours with the cable that came with it. Then wake it and search again from the app.

You should see: The scale turns on or responds when you step on it, and you can search for it in the app.

  6. Contact Hume support if it still fails

If none of the steps work, contact Hume Customer Support. Hume's FAQ suggests having a short video of the problem ready, such as the scale and the app screen, so support can respond faster.

You should see: You have a support case with the details Hume needs, or the scale connects.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether the Bluetooth icon on the scale is flashing, whether the Hume app finds the scale when you search, and whether the scale turns on at all.

Before you change anything: Make sure the scale is charged and placed near the phone. Note which phone is meant to pair with the scale, and whether another phone in the house has the Hume app open. Keep the scale's charging cable nearby in case it needs to be charged.
