How do I reset a forgotten Google account password?
Answer
Use Google’s official account recovery page to verify your identity with a recovery email, phone, or previously signed-in device. After a successful reset, wait a few minutes before signing in on TVs or other devices so the new password can sync.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Never share Google verification codes with callers or remote helpers you did not initiate contact with.
Follow these steps
Start Google account recovery
On a browser, open Google’s sign-in page, enter the email address, choose Forgot password, and follow the official prompts.
You should see: Google offers verification choices such as a text, call, recovery email, or prompt on another device.
Verify your identity
Complete the recovery challenge you can still access. Enter codes only into the official Google page you opened.
You should see: Google accepts the verification and lets you create a new password.
Set a new password
Choose a strong new password you have not used elsewhere, save it in a password manager, then sign in once on the browser to confirm.
You should see: Browser sign-in succeeds with the new password.
Sign in on other devices after a short wait
Wait about 5 to 10 minutes, then enter the new password on a TV or other device. If it still fails, retry once after another short wait.
You should see: Other devices accept the updated Google password.

Before you change anything: Use only the official Google account recovery pages. Have access to your recovery phone or email. Avoid recovery help from unexpected callers. Do not share one-time codes with anyone.
