How do I remove one Verizon line while keeping another number active on an iPad?

Answer

In a multi-line Verizon account, cancel or port only the line you want to leave, and leave the iPad line untouched. Use Verizon’s official account tools to select the specific mobile number before confirming any disconnect or transfer.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Choosing cancel account instead of remove line can disconnect every number, including the iPad.
  • Do not give your Verizon account PIN to anyone who calls claiming they will move lines for you.

Follow these steps

  1. Label each line in My Verizon

Sign in to the official My Verizon app or website and list every line, matching numbers to the iPad and the line that will leave.

You should see: You can clearly identify the keep line versus the leave line.

  2. Port or disconnect only the leave line

If moving to another carrier, start the port with the new carrier using that line’s account number and transfer PIN. If simply canceling, choose Disconnect or Remove line for that number only.

You should see: Verizon processes a change on one line without closing the whole account.

  3. Protect the iPad line

During confirmation screens, double-check that the iPad number is not selected for disconnect. Save any confirmation numbers.

You should see: The confirmation lists only the unwanted number.

  4. Verify service after the change

After Verizon completes the request, confirm the iPad still has data/service and the other number works on the new carrier or is fully canceled.

You should see: The iPad line stays active and the other line is gone from Verizon as intended.

Extra tips

What to look for: Each line’s phone number and device nickname in My Verizon, Transfer / port-out options, and Disconnect or Remove line screens.

Before you change anything: Write down which number belongs to the iPad and which number will leave Verizon. If porting out, start the port with the new carrier before canceling casually. Avoid Remove account if you only mean to remove one line. Never share account PINs with unexpected callers.
