How do I reset a Genie garage keypad PIN when 357 programming fails?

Retry the exact Genie sequence—enter 357, press PROGRAM, enter the new PIN, press PROGRAM again—within the time window while standing close to the keypad. If a full clear still fails, the keypad is likely faulty even when buttons seem to click.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Keep people and pets clear of the door path while testing opener response.
  • Standing on an unstable ladder to reach the ceiling unit can cause falls—use proper support.

Follow these steps

  1. Replace keypad batteries

    Install a fresh set of the correct batteries and wait a minute for the keypad to power stably.

    You should see: Keypad backlight or beep behavior looks normal when pressing keys.

  2. Retry the 357 program sequence

    Enter 357, press PROGRAM, enter your new PIN, then press PROGRAM again promptly. Stay within a few feet of the keypad and avoid long pauses.

    You should see: The keypad confirms programming, or still ignores the sequence.

  3. Clear and reprogram once more

    Follow Genie’s full keypad clear instructions for your model, then immediately set a simple new PIN again with the same 357/PROGRAM method.

    You should see: Either the new PIN operates the door, or programming still fails completely.

  4. Replace the keypad if programming never sticks

    If Learn on the opener still works with remotes but the keypad cannot store a PIN, replace the wireless keypad and program the new unit to the opener.

    You should see: A new keypad accepts a PIN and opens the door.
