How do I update the phone number on a Chime account after getting a new device?
Answer
Update the mobile number from inside the official Chime app while you can still receive codes at the old number when possible. If the old number is gone, use Chime’s in-app support or verified account recovery path—do not rely on unofficial “account unlock” services.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Never share Chime SMS codes with anyone who contacts you by phone, text, or social media.
Follow these steps
Open Chime profile settings
Open the official Chime app, go to Profile / Settings, and find the mobile phone number field.
You should see: The current number on file is shown with an option to edit it.
Verify the old number if available
Start the number change and complete any SMS or email verification sent to the existing contact methods. Enter codes only in the Chime app.
You should see: Chime accepts verification and lets you enter a new number.
Add and confirm the new number
Enter the new mobile number, request the code, and confirm it on the new phone. Keep both phones nearby if the old number must approve the change.
You should see: Settings show the updated number as verified.
Contact Chime support if locked out
If the old number cannot receive codes and the app blocks changes, use Chime’s official in-app chat or support flow with identity verification to update the number.
You should see: Support updates the number or provides the exact recovery steps for your account.

Extra tips
What to look for: Profile or settings options for mobile number, SMS code prompts, and any error when saving the new number.
Before you change anything: Have the new phone number ready and able to receive SMS. Keep the old SIM available if it still receives texts. Sign in only through the official Chime app or site. Never share banking one-time codes with unexpected callers.
