Follow these steps
Call and search nearby
Call the phone and check recent rooms, pockets, bags, cars, and chargers while it rings or vibrates.
You should see: You find the phone, or it does not ring nearby.
Play a sound remotely
On another device, open Find My (Apple) or Find Hub / Find My Device (Google), select the missing phone, and play a sound.
You should see: You hear the phone or see a last-known location on the map.
Mark as lost
If you cannot find it quickly, enable Lost Mode or Secure Device with a contact number and lock message. Leave Find My enabled.
You should see: The phone locks and shows your message if it connects.
Erase only as a last step
Erase remotely only after recovery looks unlikely and you have backed up what you can. Then contact your carrier about suspending the line.
You should see: The phone is wiped or the line is suspended pending replacement.
