Why do photos show on a camera but not when uploaded?

Stop taking photos on that card immediately — this usually means the card's file index is damaged while the images themselves are still intact. Try a different card reader first, then look in the card's folders directly rather than relying on import software, which sometimes hides files it does not recognise.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Never let the camera or computer format or repair the card before copying the files off. Formatting is what makes loss permanent.
- Recovery tools that write to the card while scanning can destroy the data. Choose one that works read-only.
Follow these steps
Stop using the card
Take it out of the camera and take no more photos on it. New images overwrite recoverable data.
You should see: Nothing further is written to the card.
Try another reader and computer
Use a different card reader, port, and if possible another computer. Readers fail more often than cards.
You should see: The files appear, or the reader is ruled out.
Browse the folders directly
Open the card in a file browser and look inside its image folder rather than using import software, which can filter out unrecognised files.
You should see: You can see the image files.
Copy before repairing
Copy everything you can see to the computer first. Only then consider any repair or check-disk prompt.
You should see: A safe copy exists elsewhere.
Use recovery software if still empty
If files are genuinely not visible, run photo recovery software that reads the card without writing to it.
You should see: Recoverable images are extracted to the computer.
