Why won't a smartwatch connect to its companion app?
Answer
Pairing has to be done from inside the app with Bluetooth on and location permission granted — the app cannot discover the watch without that permission, and it usually fails silently rather than explaining. If the watch was ever paired before, remove it from the phone's Bluetooth list first, since a stale pairing blocks a fresh one.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Resetting the watch erases activity data not already synced to the app.
Follow these steps
Grant the app its permissions
In the phone's app settings, allow Bluetooth, location, and nearby-devices access for the companion app.
You should see: The app can scan for nearby devices.
Remove any old pairing
In the phone's Bluetooth settings, forget the watch if it is listed. A stale pairing prevents the app from claiming it.
You should see: The watch no longer appears in the Bluetooth list.
Restart both
Restart the phone and the watch, then reopen the app.
You should see: Both start with a clean Bluetooth state.
Pair from inside the app
Start pairing from within the companion app, not from the phone's Bluetooth menu, and keep the devices close together.
You should see: The app finds the watch and completes pairing.
Reset the watch as a last step
If it still fails, reset the watch to factory settings and pair it as new. This clears any account still attached to it.
You should see: The watch pairs as a new device.

Extra tips
What to look for: Whether the watch appears in the phone's own Bluetooth list but not in the app — that combination points squarely at permissions.
Before you change anything: Charge the watch above half, and keep it within a metre of the phone while pairing.
