Why does Yahoo Mail work on a computer but not on an iPhone after a hack?

Answer

Remove and re-add the Yahoo account under Settings > Mail > Accounts, then sign in with the new password and approve security prompts. The iPhone often still holds the old credentials after a password change.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Never share one-time codes with callers claiming to be Yahoo support.

Follow these steps

  1. Sign in on the web first

Open Safari, go to Yahoo’s official sign-in page, and sign in with the new password.

You should see: The inbox opens in Safari.

  2. Remove the old Mail account

Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts, select Yahoo, and delete it from the iPhone.

You should see: Yahoo disappears from Mail accounts.

  3. Re-add Yahoo

Tap Add Account > Yahoo and sign in again, completing any two-factor prompts.

You should see: Mail downloads on the phone.

  4. Restart and test

Restart the iPhone and open Mail.

You should see: New messages appear as they do on the computer.

Extra tips

What to look for: Yahoo works in a browser; iPhone Mail shows password or cannot-get-mail errors after a compromise.

Before you change anything: Confirm the password was changed on Yahoo’s official site. Review recent Yahoo account activity. Avoid third-party “fix mail” links.
