Why won’t my new Kindle accept the Amazon verification code?
Answer
Use the newest code from Amazon’s email or SMS, type it carefully on the Kindle or amazon.com/code page, and make sure you are registering the same Amazon account. If codes keep failing, request a new code and complete registration on a computer, then finish Kindle setup.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Never share Amazon verification codes with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.
Follow these steps
Request and use the newest code
On the Kindle, choose to send/resend the code. Open the newest Amazon message only, and enter that code within a few minutes. Older codes in your inbox often fail.
You should see: The latest code is accepted, or you get a clear invalid/expired message.
Register at amazon.com/code on a computer
On a trusted browser, go to amazon.com/code, sign in with the Amazon account you want on the Kindle, and enter the code shown on the Kindle screen exactly.
You should see: The website confirms the Kindle is registered to your account.
Confirm the correct Amazon account
If it still fails, sign out on the browser, sign into the account that receives Amazon order emails, and retry. Avoid a household member’s separate Amazon login.
You should see: Registration succeeds on the account that owns your purchases.
Finish Kindle setup
Return to the Kindle, continue Wi‑Fi setup, and open the library. If stuck, restart the Kindle and choose the already-registered account path if offered.
You should see: The Kindle shows your Amazon library content.

Extra tips
What to look for: Prompt to visit amazon.com/code; “verify account” style errors; multiple codes in email; signing into a different Amazon account than the one that owns the Kindle.
Before you change anything: Have access to the email or phone on your Amazon account. Use only Amazon’s official site—not links from unexpected texts. Do not share the code with callers. If you lost a prior Kindle, deregister it from Amazon account devices if needed.
