Why won’t YouTube TV accept my new payment method on a smart TV?
Answer
Update the payment method on the YouTube TV website or Google Pay/Payments center for the same Google account, confirm a successful charge, then on the TV clear YouTube TV app cache or update/reinstall the app and sign in again.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Clearing YouTube TV app data signs you out and may remove local preferences on that TV.
Follow these steps
Fix billing on the web
On a phone or computer, sign into the Google account that owns YouTube TV. Open YouTube TV membership/billing settings (or Google Payments) and add the new card with the exact billing address. Complete any verification charge.
You should see: Membership shows an active paid status instead of a failed payment.
Confirm the charge posted
Check YouTube TV purchase/membership history and your card app for a successful authorization. If it still shows $0 paid, retry payment or contact YouTube TV billing through official help.
You should see: A real charge or confirmed membership period appears.
Refresh the TV app
On the TV, go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > YouTube TV, clear cache (and clear data if needed), or open the Google Play Store, update YouTube TV, then restart the TV and sign in again.
You should see: YouTube TV loads live TV without asking for the old dead card.
Sign out and back in
In the YouTube TV app, sign out, restart the TV, sign into the same Google account, and retest. If payment is active on the web but not the TV, remove and reinstall the app once.
You should see: The TV session matches the web membership state.

Extra tips
What to look for: Prompt to update payment; purchases showing $0; Google account email on the TV; YouTube TV app version; backup/payment errors.
Before you change anything: Know which Google account owns YouTube TV. Have the new card and exact billing address ready. Use official Google/YouTube TV billing pages only. Do not share card codes with callers.
