What should I do immediately if my phone is stolen?

Answer

Use Find My or Find Hub to lock or erase the phone, then contact the carrier through official support to suspend service and report the device. If carrier-account login fails, use account recovery or phone support with owner verification.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Anyone demanding payment or codes to return a stolen phone may be running a scam.
  • Erasing the phone can stop future location updates.

Follow these steps

  1. Lock the phone with Find My or Find Hub

On another device, open Find My for iPhone or Google Find Hub / android.com/find for Android, sign in with the account on the stolen phone, and use Mark As Lost or Lock.

You should see: The phone locks and can show a contact message if it comes online.

  2. Suspend service with the carrier

Contact AT&T or your carrier through the official app, website, or verified support line and ask to suspend service and flag the device as lost or stolen.

You should see: The line is suspended and the carrier notes the device status.

  3. Recover a locked carrier account if needed

If you cannot access the AT&T or carrier account, use official account recovery or speak with carrier support after identity verification.

You should see: You regain enough account access to suspend the line.

  4. Change important passwords

From a safe device, change Apple ID or Google password, email password, and banking passwords that may have been saved on the stolen phone.

You should see: Key accounts are protected even if the phone is still missing.

Extra tips

What to look for: Find My or Find Hub status, whether Mark As Lost or Lock worked, and whether the carrier account can suspend the line

Before you change anything: Use another phone or computer you trust. Do not share account passwords with people claiming they found the phone. File a police report if your local process recommends it for carrier claims. Avoid unofficial IMEI blacklist websites that ask for payment.
