Accounts & Passwords

What should you do if Telegram says an old account or phone number is banned?

Answer

Record the exact message and contact Telegram through its official login-support form. If you can sign in but only messaging is restricted, use the @SpamBot route documented in Telegram’s Spam FAQ. A ban, a messaging limit, and an account deleted through inactivity need different handling.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Never share a Telegram login code with an unexpected caller, support impersonator, bot, or paid recovery service.
  • An account deleted through inactivity may have lost its cloud data. A ban review is not a backup restoration process.

Follow these steps

  1. Identify which restriction is shown

Write down the complete message and where it appears. Distinguish a blocked sign-in from a messaging limit after successful sign-in. Do not describe it only as an account problem in the support request.

You should see: You can state the specific access failure.

  2. Submit a login problem through Telegram

For blocked sign-in, open the official Telegram support form. Enter the requested name, contact email, and phone number in international format. Describe the ban message, the long absence, and when you discovered it. Ask for a review; do not include passwords or login codes.

You should see: You have submitted the issue directly to Telegram.

  3. Use the messaging-limit route only when applicable

If you can sign in but messaging is restricted, follow the Telegram Spam FAQ and contact the @SpamBot linked there. Explain if you believe the limitation was applied incorrectly.

You should see: The review request uses the route for a messaging limitation.

  4. Keep recovery expectations realistic

Read the inactivity explanation in the Telegram FAQ. Automatic deletion can remove an unused account and its cloud data. Do not assume a review will restore an account that was deleted, and avoid anyone promising guaranteed recovery for a fee.

You should see: You understand that the review outcome and availability of old data are uncertain.

Extra tips

What to look for: Note whether sign-in fails entirely or the app opens but messages to non-contacts are restricted.

Before you change anything: Keep a screenshot of the message. Confirm the phone number is still yours. Do not give anyone login codes.
