Why am I not receiving text messages after switching from iPhone to Samsung?

Answer

Turn off iMessage on the old Apple ID if possible, then on the Samsung restart, clear the Messages app cache/data if needed, and reset mobile network settings. Ask your carrier to provision SMS to the new SIM/eSIM if green-bubble texts still fail.

  • Clearing Messages data deletes text history stored on the Samsung.

Follow these steps

  1. Deregister iMessage for the number

    If you can unlock the iPhone, sign in and turn off iMessage, then sign out. If you cannot, use Apple’s official “Deregister iMessage” web page with the phone number. Restart the Samsung afterward.

    You should see: iPhone-to-SMS senders can reach the number as regular texts.

  2. Restart and check Samsung Messages

    Restart the Samsung. Open Messages, confirm the correct number/SIM is selected for sending, and ask someone with an Android phone and someone with an iPhone to text you.

    You should see: At least some SMS arrive, helping isolate iMessage vs network issues.

  3. Clear Messages storage if the inbox is stuck

    Go to Settings > Apps > Messages > Storage and tap Clear cache first. If needed, Clear data (this removes local message history on the phone), then open Messages and retest.

    You should see: New texts begin appearing in a fresh Messages inbox.

  4. Reset mobile network settings

    Go to Settings > General management > Reset > Reset mobile network settings, confirm, reconnect to Wi‑Fi if needed, and retest SMS. Contact the carrier to refresh SMS provisioning if nothing arrives.

    You should see: Network settings reload and SMS is delivered, or carrier support takes the next step.
