Why is there no sound on one cable channel after a box reset?

Check that the TV and box volume are up, mute is off, and Secondary Audio Program (SAP) is disabled. Reboot the TV and box together, then try another HDMI cable or TV sound output. If only one channel is silent, it is often a channel-specific audio feed or guide glitch—report that channel number to the provider.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not give your cable account password or codes to unexpected callers asking for your full name first.
  • Repeated factory resets can wipe DVR settings; prefer simple reboots first.

Follow these steps

  1. Rule out mute and SAP

    Unmute the TV and box, raise volume, and turn off SAP / Secondary Audio / alternate language in the channel’s audio or options menu.

    You should see: Normal stereo/primary audio returns, or SAP was not the cause.

  2. Compare other channels and outputs

    Tune several other channels. Switch TV Sound Output between TV speakers and HDMI-ARC/soundbar. Power-cycle the soundbar if used.

    You should see: You learn whether the fault is one channel, the soundbar path, or all audio.

  3. Reboot TV and box together

    Unplug the cable box and TV for 60 seconds, plug the TV in first, then the box, and wait for a full boot before testing channel 179 again.

    You should see: Audio stays stable on the problem channel for more than a few minutes.

  4. Report a single-channel fault

    If only that channel fails after these steps, contact the provider through official support with the channel number and time of day. Ask for a channel refresh or ticket on that feed.

    You should see: The provider refreshes the channel lineup or confirms an upstream audio issue.
