How do I reactivate a closed Kobo account?
Answer
Kobo's official help says a closed account can usually be reopened from Kobo.com. Use the Sign In button with the same username and password as the closed account, then continue through the reactivation prompt. If Kobo Customer Care deactivated the account, reactivation has to go through Customer Care instead.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Ignore anyone who offers to reactivate the account for a fee or asks for remote access to your device. Reactivation is done through Kobo.com or Kobo Customer Care.
Follow these steps
Find out who closed the account
Think back to whether you closed the account yourself. Kobo's help article says that if a Kobo Customer Care agent deactivated your account, you need to contact Kobo Customer Care to reactivate it. If you closed the account yourself, the steps below are the official route.
You should see: You know which path applies: self-service reactivation, or contacting Kobo Customer Care.
Sign in with the closed account's details
Go to Kobo.com and select the Sign In button near the top of the page, as described in Kobo's help article on reactivating your account. Enter the username and password linked to the account you closed. The credentials must match that account.
You should see: The sign-in form accepts the details, and you move on to the next prompt instead of seeing a generic error.
Accept the reactivation prompt
After you select Continue, Kobo should show a prompt titled Reactivate your account? Select Continue again to start the reactivation.
You should see: The Reactivate your account? prompt appears, and then the on-screen reactivation steps begin.
Complete the on-screen steps
Follow the remaining prompts on screen. Read each one before you select anything, and do not enter codes or payment details that you did not expect to be asked for.
You should see: The reactivation finishes, and you can sign in to your Kobo account as usual.
Check your purchases
After you are signed in, open your library or purchase history on Kobo.com to see your books and other items. Kobo's help article says items you purchased are kept when an account is closed.
You should see: Your previously purchased items appear in your library or purchase history.
Contact Kobo Customer Care if sign-in still fails
If the reactivation prompt never appears, or the account was closed by Kobo Customer Care, use the contact option in Kobo's help center to reach Kobo Customer Care. Give them the username or email for the account, and let them handle the reactivation.
You should see: Customer Care confirms the account status and either reactivates it or explains the next step.

Extra tips
What to look for: Whether you closed the account yourself or someone from Kobo Customer Care closed it, the username and password you used before, and whether a Reactivate your account? prompt appears after you sign in.
Before you change anything: Write down the username or email address that was on the closed account. Have the password for that account ready, and make sure it is the one you used before the account was closed. Keep any Kobo order confirmations or emails, since they can help you confirm which account it was. Do not share your password with anyone who contacts you about the account.
