Why won't Netflix play and shows an error code?
Answer
Codes in this family generally mean the app cannot reach the service or has stale stored information. Restart the device fully, restart the router, and if it persists, sign out and back in or reinstall the app. It is rarely an account problem, so check another device before assuming it is.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Search results sometimes list fake Netflix support numbers. Use only the help pages inside the app or on the official site.
- A factory reset clears every app and sign-in on the device and is not needed for this.
Follow these steps
Restart the device fully
Power the TV or streaming device down completely — unplug it for a minute rather than using standby.
You should see: It restarts and Netflix may play.
Restart the router
Power the router off for thirty seconds and let it fully restart before testing again.
You should see: The connection is re-established cleanly.
Test on another device
Open Netflix on a phone on the same network. If it works there, the account is fine.
You should see: You know whether to focus on the device.
Sign out and back in
In the app, sign out, then sign in again with your email and password.
You should see: The stored session is replaced.
Reinstall the app
Remove Netflix from the device and install it again from its app store.
You should see: A clean copy plays normally.

Extra tips
What to look for: Whether Netflix works on a phone using the same account and connection. That separates the account from the device.
Before you change anything: Have the Netflix email and password ready, since signing out will require them.
