How do I exit Android recovery mode when the side button is broken?

Recovery mode exits on its own if left alone — most builds reboot after a period of inactivity, so leaving it untouched until the battery drains and then charging it will usually bring the phone back up normally. A wired keyboard through a USB adapter can also drive the menu when the buttons cannot.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Selecting wipe data or factory reset in recovery erases everything on the phone with no undo.
- Letting a lithium battery run completely flat repeatedly shortens its life. Use this once, not as a routine.
Follow these steps
Leave it alone first
Do not press anything. Many builds automatically reboot out of recovery after a period of inactivity.
You should see: The phone restarts into the normal system.
Let the battery run down
If it stays in recovery, leave it unplugged until it powers off completely, then charge it and let it start.
You should see: It boots normally rather than back into recovery.
Try a wired keyboard
Connect a USB keyboard through an adapter. Arrow keys move the selection and Enter confirms, replacing the broken button.
You should see: You can select Reboot system now.
Avoid the wipe options
Never select wipe data or factory reset while navigating. Choose only Reboot system now.
You should see: Your data stays intact.
Get the button repaired
Once running, arrange repair. A broken power button will cause this again and prevents normal restarts.
You should see: The phone can be controlled normally.
